BUILDING GROWTH MINDSET IN CHILDREN

FUN EXERCISES TO HELP FOSTER GROWTH MINDSET IN CHILDREN
Activities and games have proven benefits of nurturing certain values in children subconsciously. So, here we have some of the tested activities and games you can conduct in your class or with your child.
- THE CRUMPLE EXPERIENCE
Here is an example to show your kid that their value doesn’t deteriorate with bad experiences. The activity goes like this: Ask your child to sit down for this. Take out a currency note and crumple it. Throw it! Now, ask them to unfold the note and ask them, how much the value of the note. Using this as an example, engage them in a conversation about mistakes don’t change or degrade the value of a person.
- ACCOMPLISHMENT JAR
Accomplishing goals and achieving can encourage and motivate us to grow. With that idea, Accomplishment Jar is a simple way for children to feel positive about a bad day or bleak circumstance. Set up a jar in your house and set a stack of paper/ post-its near it. At the end of every day, encourage your child to write down the “One thing they accomplished that day”. It can be a simple thing but this will enable the children to develop a positive outlook from an early age.
- THE MEDIUM OF ART
Art as a medium has enabled a lot of people to act as a means to express themselves. Applying the same logic here, give your child some papers and colouring tools and encourage them to draw/write their favourite things about themselves. One of the outcomes of this is confidence. They become more empowered and this in turn enhances their self-esteem.
- ACTION PLAN LIST
One of the primary factors for driving a growth mindset in children is to push to solve their own problems. So, when they seem bogged down with bad grades or inability to understand concepts. Help them make an action plan list. Write down the struggles they face and prod them towards writing down the possible solutions for each of them. This is empowering because, when the children are in charge, they feel responsible to take action and this in turn, tunes them towards attaining a growth mindset.
- POSTERS OF POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS
Nothing works better than getting positive affirmations from your favourite hero or superstar. Print out motivating posters of your child’s favourite heroes and stick them around in their rooms. This works subconsciously and helps to get them in the right track!
